Building B of the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University contains 175,000 square feet of laboratory, office, and collaborative areas. It combines many of ASU’s top biomedicine and health outcomes, sustainability and security research centers including: Bioelectronic and Biosensors, BioEnergetics, Biosignatures Discovery Automation, Environmental Security, Evolutionary Medicine and Informatics, Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, Innovations in Medicine, Personalized Diagnostics, Single Molecule Biophysics, Sustainable Health and the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology. The five-level, LEED Platinum® facility is also a shining example of Sundt’s ability to help clients balance their sustainability goals with precision, beauty and affordability.

The laboratories contain many of the same construction systems as forensic science labs – ultra-clean rooms (eliminating dust, airborne microbes, aerosol particles and chemical vapors); containment systems for bioscience analytical procedures and the highest interior system performance standards for cleanliness, temperature, humidity, filtration, exhaust and vibration controls.

Together with a joint venture partner, we were able to respond to the university’s urgent need for the facility without compromising on quality by overlapping the design and construction to complete the iconic project nine months ahead of schedule.
